Re-think low-value goods tax on imported products: Wee

Putrajaya should consider postponing the implementation of the 10% tax on imported low-value goods (LVG) sold online, or apply it selectively to imported items that have Malaysian-made equivalents, MCA president Wee Ka Siong said today.

The Finance Ministry has clarified that the government's decision to impose a 10% sales tax on imported low-value goods (LVG) sold online, effective from January 1 next year, is aimed at levelling the playing field for the local retail industry.

Imported low-value goods sold online will be imposed 10% tax from Jan 1, 2024

RMCD defined LVG as all goods – excluding cigarettes, tobacco products, intoxicating liquors, electronic cigarettes, and preparation of a kind used for smoking – which are sold at a price not exceeding RM500, and are brought into Malaysia by land, sea or air.
