Indonesia’s National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure documented floods and wind-related disasters in various regions while in the Philippines, flooding and landslides have been reported in Southern Mindanao.
The government plans to introduce a special law to improve and enhance disaster management preparedness in the country, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.
The dry weather could result in prolonged droughts and haze affecting millions across the region as it did in 2015. Malaysia and the rest of Southeast Asia face heightened risks of haze, drought and water shortages with an El Niño phenomenon being declared this year.
