KUALA LUMPUR – Two children, believed to be witnesses in police’s ongoing investigations into the murder of 6-year-old Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin, today assisted the forensic unit team at Damansara Damai’s Idaman Apartments.

The two male children were spotted pointing out to authorities the location where they had last seen Zayn Rayyan before the autistic boy’s body was found by a river about 100m from Block R of the residence on December 6.

The children, according to media reports, had aided police in stages, with one child, believed to be 6 years old, speaking to police while accompanied by a woman around Block R and the stream area at around 11.20am.

The second child, said to be 9 years old, had then arrived on scene at approximately 12pm to recount his version of events.

Yesterday, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said two child witnesses had seen Zayn at the second and third levels of Block R on the evening of December 5, the day Zayn was reported missing.

Previously, Zayn’s paternal grandfather, Zahari Mohd Reba, told the press that a group of children had seen his grandson running to the third floor of Block R, which is where the child stayed with his parents and younger brother.

Today marks the ninth day of investigations into Zayn Rayyan’s murder.

On Wednesday, police confirmed finding a sock in the stream where his body was found. Hussein has since said the sock does not belong to the child.

Earlier on, police sought the help of the Fire and Rescue Department as well as the Selangor Irrigation and Drainage Department to drain the water from the stream in order to look for evidence. – December 15, 2023
