KUALA LUMPUR – Police shot dead five suspected armed criminals in Putra Heights last night.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed this.
It was reported the criminals, all locals, were suspected of being actively involved in more than 50 armed robberies across the Klang Valley over the past two years.
The incident occurred at about 11.30pm last night when a police team patrolled Persiaran Harmoni, Putra Heights, here, and saw the five suspects in a Perodua Axia being driven suspiciously.
When ordered to stop for inspection, the suspects, aged between 25 and 30, sped off with the car and fired several shots at the police.
The team, comprising officers and members of the Bukit Aman criminal investigation department (CID) along with Selangor and Kuala Lumpur CID contingents, attempted to block the Axia by surrounding it. However, the vehicle ended up colliding with the rear of the police car.
Meanwhile, the suspects continued firing shots, prompting the police to return fire in self-defence.
A press conference is expected to be held this afternoon on this incident. – March 30, 2024
