KUALA LUMPUR – Former Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) CEO Datuk Abdul Kadir Mohd Din, has been appointed Chairman of the Water Services Commission (SPAN) effective May 5.
The past president of the Malaysian Water Association replaces Charles Santiago who completed a second two-year term as Chairman.
Charles previously held the position between 2018 and 2020.
The three-term Klang MP is a prolific human rights campaigner both locally and globally, and championed unfettered access to water for all, as a basic human right.
Meannwhile, Abdul Kadir who is also appointed for a two-year term, is the managing director of waste water treatment consultancy Sacra Sol Sdn Bhd.
He is also an advisor to Ranhill Holdings Bhd whose main business is in water treatment and supply as well as waste water management.
Abdul Kadir also previously held the position of Chief Operating Officer for Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB).
When contacted, Santiago hoped the work put in over the last two years to enhance operations, efficiency and integrity will continue.
“I thank the Prime Minister and the Minister in charge for the opportunity to serve,” Santiago told Scoop.
“I hope the momentum built over the past two years be maintained to realise the full potential of SPAN’s.”
