KUALA LUMPUR – Thunderstorms and heavy rains this afternoon will last until 7pm today, the Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said in an advisory.

The alert issued at 4pm applies to most of Peninsular Malaysia, except Terengganu and Kelantan, and to several areas in Sarawak and Sabah.

Along with thunderstorms and heavy rain, strong winds are also predicted for these areas.

Affected areas in Sarawak are in Miri (Subis and Beluru) and Limbang (Lawas).

In Sabah, the interior areas of Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Nabawan and Tambunan, and Tongod in Sandakan are affected.

“Warnings will be issued when there are signs of thunderstorms with rain intensity exceeding 20 mm/hour or expected to last more than an hour,” the department said.

Heavy rains have been lashing the country in the past few days, causing an increase in the number of people displaced by floods in Perak and Selangor as of this morning. – November 7, 2023
